Biography


Scott Schwertfeger is a native of Moundsville, West Virginia. He grew up on the foothills of the Ohio River and was influenced by the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains.

Scott earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Akron, having studied with renowned guitarist and pedagogue Stephen Aron. Scott completed his Bachelor of Science in Guitar Performance/ Music History from West Liberty State College, where he was mentored by Dr. Nels Leonard, a student and friend of Andrés Segovia.

Upon graduation Scott has been involved in numerous projects. Scott has crossed musical boundaries through his work with Modern Yesterday, who's debut recording was produced by Grammy Award winning producer David Kershenbaum whose credits include soundtracks from the films Last of the Mohicans, Robinhood: Prince of Thieves and artists such as Tracy Chapman, Cat Stevens and Supertramp. Scott can be heard on his work with Modern Yesterday; Modern Yesterday, 1998, Mya; Fear of Flying 2000, and the debut solo guitar recording, Scott Schwertfeger; Scott Schwertfeger, 2010.

Described by the Washington Post as, "Visceral...Bracing", Scott is an active performer and teacher in the DC metropolitan area, and is a faculty member of Columbia Institute of Fine Arts, in Falls Church, Virginia.
